Smoke Daddy’s Review of Haywards Pit Bar-B-Que

Smoke Daddy’s Review of Haywards Pit Bar-B-Que

My favorites here were the Pork Burnt Ends, potato salad, slaw, and sauce.

MAIN FARE:Hayward's spread

  • Brisket – Chewy, but moist. All the bark has been trimmed off.
  • Burnt Ends – Heavy smoke.  One piece is good… but not the other.
  • Rib – Tough exterior.  Creosote issue here.
  • Sausage – Good smoke ring. This may be the same kind of sausage served at Boardroom, but it tastes better here.
  • Pork – Good flavors, but a little dry.
  • Pork Burnt Ends – Mmmm.  Better than the beef version.

OTHER FARE:

Crew inside Hayward's

  • Potato Salad – Mustard-based with a little creamy texture.  Nice.
  • Cole Slaw – Crunch with carrots and purple cabbage. Good.
  • Beans – Good, with a little spice on the finish.
  • Sauce – Tomato-based and bold with a nice balance of sweet & heat.

ATMOSPHERE:

  • Newer building in a commercial area (1981).  Original location is where Boardroom is today.
  • Great pits, although Hayward was not there during our visit. A custom installation of J&R pits.Hayward's pit room
  • Nice bar directly in the center of the building
  • Carry-out business done through a separate door
  • Dining area is very large with full table service
  • Just starting to get busy as we depart
