Smoke Daddy’s Review of Joe Allens Pit Bar B Que, Inc

Staff was well-trained for the new location/kitchen, and everything was above average. The ribs, brisket, and cornbread were very good to excellent.  We were sorely disappointed to learn that we missed visiting the original location by a few days!

MAIN FARE:Joe Allens Spread

  • Brisket – Best of the day (Giving Pit Stop a run for the money).  Tender, moist, & not chewy.  Trimmed, so not getting much seasoning… needs just a bit of salt to bring the flavor out.
  • Rib – Salty rub.  Good flavor in this meat.  Well rendered… done to the point of falling off the bone.  This is a very tasty rib!
  • Sausage – Firm texture, with a strong black pepper kick. Very good.

OTHER FARE:

OTHER FARE:

  • Beans – Standard pintos. Late afternoon… they are a little soft, but not quite mushy.
  • Potato Salad – Creamy with egg.
  • Slaw – Crisp and crunchy. Good.
  • Cornbread – Not sweet.  Green chile or jalapeno. It is good, although I got to it late and it’s a bit dry.
  • Sauce – Translucent and Tangy. Standard Big Country style. Good… doesn’t cover flavor of meat.

ATMOSPHERE:Joe Allens New oven

  • New location – recent construction
  • Offers both table service (for steaks) and counter service (for barbecue). We opt for counter service.
  • Mesquite steak pit with butcher-style counter
  • Now using Old Hickory gassers
  • Missed the original location by a few days… Damn!  The old location was a ramshackle, organically-grown joint with a custom smoker.
  • It is evident that all the staff have gone through training on the new kitchen/equipment
  • Above average feel, but the old place would have rated much higher
